Engineering

Our hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Berkeley County Engineering and Building Inspections Departments are two of several County departments operating under the authority of the Board of County Commissioners. The Building Inspections Department is responsible for administering and enforcing all applicable building codes with regard to residential and commercial construction in our jurisdiction, as well as providing assistance to our customers so that they may understand and meet the code requirements for their building projects. The Engineering Department is a review agency for the Planning Commission. The department also administers and enforces the Berkeley County Storm Water Management and Sediment & Erosion Control Ordinance.

In order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Berkeley County, all construction must meet a series of requirements set forth by specific building codes.

Our office assists customers by providing the following services:

  • Processing Building Permit and Grading Permit applications
  • Reviewing and approving plans and specifications for construction
  • Providing ongoing inspection of projects until completion and occupancy
  • Offering guidance and helpful information on how to complete your project

We are attempting to allow our residents and customers to have easy access to the information they need – when they need it. With that in mind, we have designed our web site to provide information to make it easier to obtain that information. We are committed to the development of this website in providing more on-line services in the future.
