PERMITS TECHNICIAN
GENERAL
RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive public and assist as needed in all phases
of permits processing to include building, plumbing, mechanical and use
and occupancy.
ESSENTIAL
TASKS
(These are intended only as illustrations of the
various types of work performed. The

the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position)
1.
Answer telephone – fielding general questions from needing a
permit, setback requirements, building requirements, scheduling
inspections, checking on inspections, checking status of permit,
receiving junk and building complaints from neighbors.
2.
Assist general public in all phases of the permit process.
3.
Enter building permit applications, collect fees and issue
receipt.
4.
Responsible for compiling a daily inspection list for each
inspector and pulling and returning all permit files.
5.
Responsible for directing incoming mail and handling outgoing
mail.
6.
Balances daily the incoming funds generated by the department and
makes deposit with the Sheriff’s Dept.
7.
Enter rough and final electrical inspections as received in
computer and filing appropriately.
8.
Gather information necessary to prepare Property Maintenance Code
complaints and routing to appropriate building inspector to investigate
and enter results when completed.
9.
Prepare Use and Occupancy Certificates after verifying that all
final inspections and inspectors paperwork has been turned in.
10.
Responsible for the completion process of permitting by boxing
the completed file and scanning paperwork and plans.
11.
Perform related work as required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1.
Ability to read.
2.
Ability to work well in an open, busy office with a wide variety
of people and assist the general public in a courteous manner.
3.
Ability to understand complex instructions/processes.
4.
Good organization skills.
5.
Familiar with reading construction drawings.
PERMITS
TECHNICIAN
EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE
1.
High School diploma.
2.
Secretarial experience.
3.
Working knowledge of various computer software.
A comparable amount
of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum
qualifications.
PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to
effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public
through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally
defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects
and controls. Physical
capability to effectively use and operate various items of office
related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer,
calculator, copier and fax machine.
No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying,
bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching and handling, pushing and pulling.
Ability to lift construction drawings that may range from 5 to 10
lbs.
