KIND OF WORK:
Responsible for
building inspections, plumbing inspections and mechanical inspections
on residential structures and enforcing the property maintenance code.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
o
Inspect all phases of
residential building, plumbing and mechanical construction from
footers to final inspection.
o
Investigate complaints
of violations of codes and ordinances.
o
Prepare notice of
violation letters.
o
Attend and/or testify at
court for cases where compliance was not met.
o
Answer building code and
other general questions while in the office and/or in the field.
o
Document results of
inspections into the computer.
o
Assist in the
interpretation of codes.
o
Meet with architects,
building owners and contractors concerning issues raised during field
inspections.
o
Attend training classes
and seminars.
o
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
AND REQUIREMENTS:
o
High school diploma or
GED certificate.
o
Advanced technical
school training as an electrician, plumber, HVAC tradesman,
etc.
o
Considerable knowledge
of building codes.
o
Excellent oral and
written communications skills.
o
Ability to work well
with a wide variety of people to include contractors, business
owners, homeowners, etc.

Extensive mobility required for
standing, walking (over uneven terrain), moving, climbing (ladders,
unfinished stairs, etc), carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling
(under floors, in crawl spaces, etc), reaching, and handling,
pushing, and pulling. Ability to complete field inspections. |

Possess basic computer
skills.

THIS RECRUITMENT:

selection process. Berkeley County normally does not reimburse travel

The kind of
examination/screening for positions announced will vary with each
position and may include:

*These
examinations are administered after offer of employment.
PROBATIONARY
PERIOD:
Berkeley County is
an “At-Will” employer. However, new employees normally serve a
probationary period of six (6) months before attaining regular status.
The length of the probationary period may vary depending on the
position and may be extended depending on performance. The
probationary period is considered part of the examination process to
determine the employees fitness for the position in which he/she was
placed.
COMPENSATION:
Berkeley County
employees are paid every two (2) weeks. A new employee ordinarily
starts work at the rate specified in this announcement. The Berkeley
County Commission reviews compensation increases as part of the normal
budget preparation process and makes the appropriate compensation
adjustments at the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1).
ANNUAL LEAVE,
SICK LEAVE AND HOLIDAYS:
(the following is
unavailable for part-time and temporary positions)
o
Employees earn 1.50 days
of sick leave per month/18 days annually with unlimited accumulation.
o
Berkeley County observes
12 paid holidays per year and Primary and General Election Days as
they occur.
o
Employees accumulate
annual leave according to the following schedule:

Life Insurance is provide

prescription drug coverage. The County pays 100% of the employee costs
and the employee pays for any dependent coverage elected.

A deferred compensation
program is available.
