KENNEL WORKER
BERKELEY COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL
$8.00 PER HOUR
(Part-time, approximately 19 hours per
week; no benefits)

KIND
OF WORK:
Responsible for a variety of duties to include
general office work, basic animal care and light housekeeping associated
with the Department of Animal Control. Direction may be received from an
Animal Control Officer, the County Administrator or other County
Commission designee.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
o
Answers the telephone,
takes messages, logs complaints, etc.
o
Feed, water and provide
basic care for animals housed at the facility.
o
Assists the general public,
to include walk-in traffic, in matters relating to animal control
operations.
o
Performs light housekeeping
duties that includes cleaning the office and kennel area.
o
Maintains radio contact
with Animal Control Officers operating in the field.
o
Performs general
administrative duties to include completing purchase requisitions,
ordering supplies, etc.
o
Provides the County
Administrator with regular updates on animal control related activities.
o
Performs related tasks as
required.
QUALIFICATIONS
AND REQUIREMENTS:
o
Any combination of
education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
o
Experience performing
clerical, light maintenance and/or custodial duties preferred but not
essential.
o
Ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the
general public, etc.
o
Excellent oral and written
communications skills.
o
Possession of valid
driver’s license.

FOR THIS RECRUITMENT:

County normally does not reimburse travel expenses incurred to attend a
scheduled interview.
EXAMINATION
PROCEDURE:
The kind of
examination/screening for positions announced will vary with each
position and may include:

*These examinations
are administered after offer of employment.
PROBATIONARY
PERIOD:
Berkeley County is an
“At-Will” employer. However, new employees normally serve a
probationary period of six (6) months before attaining regular status.
The length of the probationary period may vary depending on the position
and may be extended depending on performance. The probationary period is
considered part of the examination process to determine the employee’s
fitness for the position in which he/she was placed.
COMPENSATION:
Berkeley County
employees are paid every two (2) weeks. A new employee ordinarily starts
work at the rate specified in this announcement. The Berkeley County
Commission reviews compensation increases as part of the normal budget
preparation process and makes the appropriate compensation adjustments
at the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1).
ANNUAL
LEAVE, SICK LEAVE AND HOLIDAYS:
(The following is
unavailable for part-time and temporary positions)
o
Employees earn 1.50 days of
sick leave per month/18 days annually with unlimited accumulation.
o
Berkeley County observes 12
paid holidays per year and Primary and General Election Days as they
occur.
o
Employees accumulate annual
leave according to the following schedule:

prescription drug coverage. The County pays 100% of the employee costs
and the employee pays for any dependent coverage elected.
