COMBINATION
BUILDING INSPECTOR II
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for reviewing permit
applications and construction documents for compliance with
local building codes and ordinances.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
(These are
intended only as illustrations of the various types of work
performed. The
omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the
position if the work is similar, related, or a logical
assignment to the position.)
1.
Review applications for permits for residential projects
for compliance with state and local codes and ordinances,
including written comments and responses.
2.
Answer questions and assist design professionals,
architects, engineers and the general public by phone or by
meetings with regard to code requirements and solutions to
specific problems.
3.
Perform Model Energy Code calculations on all new
construction of habitable spaces.
4.
Assist County Engineer with reviews of commercial
building permit applications for compliance with state and local
codes.
5.
Assist and direct department personnel with regard to
problems or questions concerning code issues and problems that
are encountered in the field and the office and provide
solutions to these problems.
6.
Coordinate and conduct preliminary and final review of
new projects, either in the office or at the job locations, with
other agencies (Fire Marshal, Health Department, etc.) In order
to eliminate confusion and expedite review requirements.
7.
Train department personnel with regard to code
requirements and issues.
8.
Assist and recommend and verify code requirements and
issues with the County Engineer and clarify and substantiate any
question they may have.
9.
Troubleshoot problems in the field to assist the
inspector with problem assignments.
10.
Cover other inspector’s areas in their absence.
11.
Document results of inspections into computer.
12.
Attend training classes and seminars.
13.
Capable of performing the functions of Combination
Building Inspector I and II.
14.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1.
Considerable knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical,
energy, fire, ADA and related state and federal regulations.
2.
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
3.
Ability to communicate building regulations to architects
and engineers.
4.
Knowledge of structural principals and general building
practices.
5.
Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and
written.
6.
Possess basic computer skills.
EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE
1.
High School Diploma.
2.
Advanced technical school training as an electrician,
plumber, HVAC tradesman, etc.
A
comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted
for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS
Must
have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively
communicate and interact with other employees and the public
through the use of the telephone and personal contact as
normallydefined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle
or feel objects and controls.
Physicalcapability to effectively use and operate various
items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a
personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machine.
Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying,
bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing and
pulling. Ability to
complete field inspections when necessary.
SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS
Possession
of a valid Driver’s License.
Combination
1 & 2 Family Dwelling Inspector (includes
plumbing/mechanical) required.
Combination
Commercial Building Inspector (includes plumbing/mechanical)
required.
Commercial
Building Examiner within three (3) years.
Commercial
Plumbing Examiner within three (3) years.
Commercial
Mechanical Examiner within three (3) years.
Building
Code Official within five (5) years.
Mechanical
Code Official within five (5) years.
