Berkeley County Assessor’s Office GIS
Project “GIS On The Horizon” In December,
2006, the Berkeley County Assessor’s office contracted with L. Robert
Kimball & Associates to provide Parcel Reconstruction and Data
Conversion Services for Tax Mapping a Geographic Information System
(GIS). In February, 2007, the project officially kicked-off and
conversion of current parcel data started. Berkeley
County has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years. The US Census ranked Berkeley County highest in West Virginia
from 1990-2000 with a 28.1% population growth rate.
Additionally, the US Census recorded a 28.5% growth rate in
Berkeley County from April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2006. http://www.census.gov/statab/ccdb/tst01100.txt http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/54/54003.html The Berkeley
County Assessor’s Office entered into the GIS Project with L. Robert
Kimball & Associates in an attempt to efficiently capture, manage
& assess this growth. The
GIS will be a public resource for general information regarding parcel
data. The project is
proposed to be completed in three (3) phases, with completion dates of
October, 2008 / October, 2009 & October 2010. Completion of
the third (3rd) phase, projected October, 2010, will allow
general public access to parcel information, via. a web browser and an
internet connection. The parcel
data will be viewed in conjunction with photographs that were taken
county wide on March, 2007. The
photographs will allow for very good detail of parcels. This is a very
exciting project and we are looking forward to completion and
implementation. Any suggestions or other feedback are ALWAYS welcome and can be directed to Roger Kirkbride [rkirkbr@assessor.state.wv.us] |
